Despite the dangers of the credit card trap, there are some simple rules that can help consumers make the plastic work for them. Finance commentator Paul Clitheroe said choosing the right card was key. ” Go to the free websites such as Canstar & InfoChoice or Best Credit Card Offers where you can put in your spending habits and they ill tell you the right card for you” Mr Clitheroe said.
He said there were no magic tricks to avoid debt and playing a credit card off within the interest free period was essential. “If you are disciplined and pay it in full, on time, you are getting something for nothing,” he said. But if you did run into debt, and rolled it over to another interest free or low-interest credit card, or personal loan into your home loan, it was time to cut up the plastic, Mr Clitheroe  said.
“Cut up the card and get it paid off; if you’re spending more than you’re earning, do a budget.” he said. Mr Clitheroe said for those who were debt-prone, credit debit cards provided the function of a credit card with out a debt. He also warned consumers not to get sucked in by the promises of credit card loyalty schemes.
